5 April 2006– Worthing 1 Lewes 3 (aet)

Lee Farrell came off the bench to seal the Rooks' place in the Sussex Senior Cup final on May 1st against Horsham, after a titanic struggle against a determined Worthing side who made light of the early dismissal of Mark Knee.

With all three of the Crawley trio of Wormull, Kember and Cade cup-tied, boss Steve King started with Morgaro Gomis and captain Paul Kennett in the centre of the park, whilst Luke Fontana got the nod up front alongside top scorer Jean-Michel Sigere. The most notable event of the first 45 minutes was the red card handed out to Knee, who had already been booked early on after an altercation with Dean Hooper before a late challenge earned him an early bath. Fontana also failed to complete the first period, having fallen awkwardly and sustained what was later diagnosed as a dislocated shoulder.

After the break, the first clearcut opportunity of the match fell to ex Rook Danny Davis, but he was unable to convert from close range after a great run and cross by another ex Rook; indeed Sam Francis was the best Worthing player on show, and seemingly right back to his best after a disappointing season. Thus it came as no surprise that after Lewes substitute Roscoe D'sane has fired his new side in front on 64 minutes with a close range volley after Steve Robinson had headed a free kick goalwards, it was Francis who restored parity with a run from the halfway line which ended with a stinging shot past Paul Wilkerson from an acute angle.

However as the Rebels' legs began to get heavy from the Herculean effort which they had put into the game, so it began to seem like only a matter of time before the Rooks made their territorial domination count on the shoresheet. Nevertheless it took until the 109th minute for the deadlock to be broken, when Worthing 'keeper Chuck Martini made a great save from point blank range, only for Kirk Watts to scramble home the loose ball. Martini made an even better stop to keep out Djoumin Sangare's downward header shortly afterwards, but was powerless to prevent substitute Farrell's stunning 25 yard volley in the dying seconds which sparked jubilant scenes on the terrace behind his goal.

Lewes: Wilkerson; Hooper, Lovett, Robinson, Sangare, Beckford, Gomis (Harkin 75), Kennett, Watts, Fontana (D'sane 27)(Farrell 112), Sigere.

stupid is the wrong adjective, titanic is more befitting of this fixture.

PAH!

Worthing?! Thats nothing! We already won our senioor cup 2 weeks ago, and we beat a conference team.

BLUES LIFT SENIOR CUP
A Roy Essandoh goal was enough to overcome Conference side Stevenage Borough in the Herts Senior Cup Final played at the County Headquarters at Letchworth on Tuesday night. The only down side to the evening was a serious injury to Blues winger Jason Mason, the injury transpired to be a very painful dislocated elbow.

Tell me Lemmi, does that striker for Worthing, with the dreads still play up front?
