Viola win peninsula plaudits
Wednesday 7 November, 2007
Fiorentina are on sensational form and some high-profile names are tipping the Viola to emerge as Scudetto challengers.

Cesare Prandelli’s side are in second place and have managed an amazing 20 games unbeaten in all competitions.

While most pundits still see a Champions League place as the extent of the Gigliati’s aspirations, some of the peninsula’s most respected Coaches predict greater things.

“If Fiorentina are still up there in a few months and still close to the leaders it won’t be fantasy to talk about the title,” ex-Azzurri boss Marcello Lippi told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“The Viola have settled at the top of Serie A for three seasons now so it isn’t anything new.”

Former Milan boss Arrigo Sacchi believes that a title push isn’t out of the question as long as Prandelli is allowed to work in peace.

“When I had a great squad at my disposal I never talked about winning the Scudetto to my players,” he explained.

“You ask them to fight and to play well and give their best. If you want the Gigliati to keep doing well you should let them get on with it in peace.”

Carlo Ancelotti is impressed with Fiorentina’s start to the campaign and isn’t shocked by the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit’s success.

“I’m not at all surprised with the position Fiorentina are in at the moment,” he insisted.

“They aren’t at the top by chance, you just have to look at the results they have picked up over the last two years.

“I don’t know if they can actually win the title, but I’m certain that they are capable of being in the race for it.

“Inter and Roma might have a little more, but the Viola can stick in there to the end.”

Frey: We Can Win The Scudetto
Sebastien Frey believes that Fiorentina are in with an excellent chance of winning this season’s Scudetto.

The Viola have made a sensational start to the campaign and are still unbeaten in all competitions.

Claudio Prandelli’s young squad sit in second place in Serie A, just two points behind leaders Inter.

“We are playing to win the Scudetto and we do not fear Inter,” declared Frey.

“We have a definite possibility of the title. Fiorentina are growing and growing. Why should we put limitations on our ambitions?

“It is important to keep our feet on the ground. Inter have some incredible players however we want to put on a good show when we play them on December 1.”

Questions were asked on how Fiorentina would fare this seasons after the sale of star-man Luca Toni to Bayern Munich in the summer.

“Toni is one of the best attackers in the world but his departure pushed those who remained to take on more responsibility and give something extra,” Frey added. “The result is that we are now second in the table.

“The club is working in a fantastic manner and the Della Valle family has built the foundations for a magnificent skyscraper.”

It'll probably go to Inter or Roma, but as long as the Viola qualify for the CL (Which is looking very likely) then this team has a bright future ahead of it.

It would be great to see them back in the Champs League. Don't see them winning the title, but it would be awesome if they pull it off..

Well they have qualified for the CL for the past two years but the repercussions of Calciopoli took that away from them. They have already proved that they should be in the Champions League on merit.

Adrian Mutu, in addition getting a hole knocked in his head yesterday, has been diagnosed with a severe thigh strain and is expected to be out at least three weeks, missing two matches each for Romania (Bulgaria and Albania) and Fiorentina (Reggina and AEK Athens).

F*CK :banghead:

The good news is Reggina and AEK aren't exactly huge threats and he SHOULD be back for the Inter game...but he probably won't be at his best, which is going to really hurt the Viola. If only Zlatan was injured to make it fair. :P

Viola boss in mourning
Monday 26 November, 2007
The thoughts of the calcio community are with Fiorentina Coach Cesare Prandelli after his wife passed away this morning.

Prandelli didn’t travel to Reggio Calabria with his side on Sunday, as he wanted to be at Manuela’s bedside.

Manuela had been ill for a long time and the former Parma tactician had to turn down the Roma bench in 2004 when she was diagnosed with cancer.

“The club, the President, the board, the directors, the players and all of the staff are united in feeling immense grief for the Prandelli family,” a statement on Fiorentina’s website reads.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday near the Prandelli family home in Orzinuovi, near Brescia.

My thoughts are with the family of one of Italy, if not the worlds, finest managers.

For once I agree with Dunga. The thought of Diego playing for Fiorentina...

Mutu/Osvaldo--Pazzini/Vieri--Santana/Semioli
Donadel/Kuzmanović--Montolivio/Liverani--Diego
Pasqual--Krøldrup--Dainelli--Ujfaluši(aka Cunt)/Vanden Borre

With the ability to convert to 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 without much effort...

Sorry but i really cannot see Diego going to Fiorentina. It would be a step down.

That said, had they not been screwed over, they would have been playing Champions League football the last two seasons like Werder......

The Fiorentina-Torino game goes into half time with a 1-0 lead for the hosts. B)

The only goal was a penalty but Torino is hard to break down, and a 1-0 lead is pretty convincing against a team that can't score.
