Palau Blaugrana
FC Barcelona's multi-purpose sports hall
The club's Sports Hall was opened on 23rd October and is now used by the basketball, handball, five-a side and roller hockey teams.
This multi-sport pavilion, inaugurated on the 23rd October 1971, hosts Barça's basketball, roller hockey, indoor football and handball matches. The most prominent feature of the arena designed by Francesc Cavallé and Josep Soterasn is it's magnificent domed roof, which was built prior to assembly.
Over time the Palau has seen various improvements. In 1994 the arena was extended from its original 5,696 capacity to hold 8,250 spectators. The changing rooms, public access areas, gymnasium and playing surface were also rebuilt, press boxes were added as well as new seats being installed and conditions were improved to allow for roller hockey matches.
The Palau has witnessed some of the club's greatest successes including the sixth European Cup for the handball side against German outfit THW Kiel in 2000. In the 2003-04 season, the basketball team were proclaimed champion of the ACB League against Estudiantes of Madrid, the same team that were beaten in the Korac Cup final in the Palau by Aíto García Reneses' Barça side in 1999.
Some of the club's greatest ever players have graced the Palau: the handball stars Joan Sagalés, Iñaki Urdangarín and Òscar Grau and the basketball stars Andrés Jiménez and Juan Antonio San Epifanio 'Epi'.
In the 1992 Olympics held in Barcelona, the Palau hosted the taekwondo, roller hockey and judo competitions.
The Palau Blaugrana is located between the Mini Estadi and the Camp Nou
