Eidur Gudjohnsen's future at FC Barcelona has been thrown into doubt after sporting director Txiki Begiristain admitted that the Icelandic international will find playing time hard to come by this season.

Gudjohnsen has constantly been linked with a move away from the club, with English Premier League side West Ham United believed to have lodged a bid for the striker earlier in the week.

There is fierce competition for places in the Barça attack, with Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and new addition Thierry Henry plus former B-team members Giovani Dos Santos and Bojan Krkic all vying for places in the team alongside Gudjohnsen.

Speaking to Spanish media, Begiristain said that he believes that it would be wrong of Gudjohnsen to stay at the club.

"If he stays he could find it difficult to play many minutes because there are three new forwards in the first team," said Begiristain.

"His transfer is an option. To stay wouldn't be the best decision."
