Rangers - Barcelona

Barça head to Glasgow to take on Rangers at Ibrox in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Both sides go into the match defending their 100% win records in the competition.

Both sides have won their two opening matches in group E against French champions Olympique Lyon and German champions VfB Stuttgart and have a maximum of 6 points. Both sides have each scored a total of 5 goals in those two matches.

Rangers head into this match on a high following their weekend demolition of their arch rivals Celtic at Ibrox (3-0). Barça on the other hand come into the game on the back of a heavy defeat to Villarreal (3-1).

Ronaldinho is back in the squad after missing out against Villarreal following his late arrival from Brazil. Deco is out of the match however after picking up a muscle tear against Villarreal and will join Samuel Eto'o, Edmílson, Gianluca Zambrotta, Yaya Touré and Rafael Márquez on Barça's ever growing injury list.

Eidur Gudjohnsen is expected to fill in for Deco in midfield alongside Xavi and Iniesta.

After making history on the weekend by becoming Barça's youngest ever goalscorer in the league following his first ever start for the club, Bojan Krkic will be back on the bench as he makes way for Ronaldinho.

As for Rangers, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Brahim Hamdani are out of the match due to injury but key striker Kris Boyd is back in the Rangers squad after missing out Rangers' 3-0 win over Celtic over the weekend.

Barça have a relatively poor record against Scottish sides, winning only one of their last 6 matches against Scottish opposition in Scotland - that win coming in 2004 against Celtic at Parkhead when ex-Celtic hero Henrik Larsson came off the bench to score the vital goal to give Barça the 3 points.

The referee for this match will be Austrian Konrad Plautz.

Ferguson the main danger
Manager Frank Rijkaard has described Rangers captain Barry Ferguson (pictured) as the main danger.

"Normally when I talk about the opposition I talk about the whole team as when I mention just one name people say Barcelona are interested in signing them," said Rijkaard in a press conference at Ibrox

"But if I have to mention one player I would say Barry Ferguson is one of the key players for Rangers.

"He's been there a long time and he represents the spirit and the mentality of the team. He's good technically, he can shoot from distance and he reads the game well.

"For them he's a very important player. I know Rangers have a lot more important players but often it's important to have one who draws all the attention."

As for the match itself, Rijkaard doesn't expect it to be a walk in the park for Barça.

"It's going to be a tough game tomorrow night. Rangers are a very strong team, especially with the crowd and the atmosphere behind them.

"It will be tough but we are looking forward to it."

"A formidable task"
Meanwhile, Rangers manager Walter Smith described the match as "a formidable task" for his side.

"I think it will be equal to the games we played against Juventus during my first spell at the club," said Smith.

"They were a formidable side. Juventus were a different type of team from Barcelona in that they were more powerful, but they were every bit as effective. Barcelona are one of the favourites, if not the favourites, to win the Champions League, but there's no reason why we can't be competitive against them."

Squads
Barcelona: Valdés, Jorquera, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Puyol, Messi, Thuram, Sylvinho, Xavi, Oleguer, Abidal, Milito, Henry, Ezquerro, Gudjohnsen, Giovani, Bojan and Marc Crosas.
