Villarreal took a 1-2 victory away from the Camp Nou to leave Barça's title hopes in tatters.

With Real Madrid winning 2-1 on Saturday against Espanyol, the emphasis was on Barça to cut the defending champion's lead at the top of the Primera División back to 5 points but thanks to Marcos Senna's first half penalty and substitute Jon Dahl Tomasson strike 10 minutes from time, Barça now trail their arch rivals by a massive 8 points whilst Villarreal also now have their sights on Barça as they trail the Blaugrana by just 4 points with 11 more fixtures left in the league campaign.

Xavi had equalized for Barça on the hour mark after Barça broke their opponents down after their relentless pressure throughout the match. Barça should have scored more than 1 goal had it not been for their inability to test the Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

Ronaldinho could have put Barça back on level terms after Tomasson's strike but his freekick came off the cross bar meanwhile at the other end, Marcos Senna had a valid goal ruled out for offside after Victor Valdés made a hash of Nihat's powerful freekick in stoppage time.
