FC Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian right wing back Daniel Alves from Sevilla in a deal worth €29 million with another €6 million based on performances.

Speaking to the press for the first time as a Barcelona player and as the world's most expensive right sided defender, Alves said "Barcelona want to return to be the side they were two years ago and I am honoured they have come for me to form a part of this project.

"It is a very special day for me to become part of his club and this exciting project."

Meanwhile, sporting director Txiki Begiristain called Alves the best player in the world in his position.

"We have signed the best player in his position in the world. He is a full back who likes to attack and offers a great all-round contribution," said Begiristain.

Club president Joan Laporta also defended the huge fee being paid for Alves, saying that the club "paid the market price" for a player of such quality.

Manager Guardiola was also very excited at the prospect of partnering Alves with Lionel Messi down the right hand side of Barça's line up.

"They are the best players down the right and if we play well then we will have the best right side there is," said Barça's new manager.

Alves is Barça's fourth new signing this summer and he has signed with the club for four years, with a release clause set at €90 million
